WEIRDOS WELCOME.
BUT JERKS AREN’T.
The whole you, not just your workout.
Lark Greensboro’s environment is welcoming, supportive, and focused on personalized growth. We’re not here for the bullshit. We have intentionally crafted a space where the focus is everyone’s comfort. Consent and empowerment are actively cultivated and protected, ensuring a space free from the pressure of traditional gym culture.
Our founder envisioned a fitness space where people who might not identify as “gym people” felt completely at ease. She didn’t feel confident or comfortable in typical gyms, despite working in the industry for 10+ years. Lark was born out of the realization that if she didn’t feel comfortable, the clients she felt most called to help certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable either.
No scales. No mirrors. No group workouts that you have to figure out how to modify for yourself. Just a clean, maintained space with likeminded people here to learn more about themselves.
About two years ago I started working up at Lark with Josh. I started off with small fitness goals, mostly to gain more balance and core Strength, I’ve always been a athlete and I’ve always tried to stay reasonably fit, but knew that I was plateauing and so I was looking for something new. Immediately I knew that I was home at Lark after my first consultation with Josh. He completely saw what my fitness goals were and how to help me achieve them.
I look forward to our sessions every week and they are varied and fun. Also, I am owner of Undercurrent restaurant And have worked in service industry, all my life. This is a business that’s taxing on the body and Recently, I did a catering that was extremely strenuous and I felt better than I did 10 years ago doing similar events. Because of Lark fitness I am learning my body and what it’s capable of better than I ever have. I am recovering faster than I ever have and at 44 years old. I’m the strongest I’ve ever been. I’m so grateful for all of the education and expertise that Beth and Josh and the rest of the amazing coaches at Lark have given me.

I’ve always been active, but before joining Lark, my fitness routine was a mix of random boot camp-style workouts, free training plans I found online. While these kept me moving, I didn’t feel like I was truly progressing. As I turned 40, I also was feeling a lot more aches and pains. I wanted a program tailored to my goals—one that would allow me to feel strong doing activities I love, like trail running, endurance horseback riding, and adventure racing, without feeling worn down afterward. Lark seemed like the perfect place to help me do that.
The most valuable lesson I learned is that training doesn’t have to—and shouldn’t—be at max effort every session. Building effort progressively, with planned deload weeks, is far more effective. I also gained a better understanding of load versus capacity and how factors outside the gym, like stress and sleep, impact performance. This mindfulness has helped me adapt my workouts to align with how my body feels. Most importantly, I left Lark with the skills and confidence to design and execute my own training programs—a huge win for my personal fitness journey.
During my 18 months at Lark, I completed 8 adventure races (ranging from 5-15 hours), the 2024 Ride & Tie World Championship, 2 trail running events, and my first-ever 50-mile endurance horseback ride. In each event, I felt strong, capable, and well-prepared—and my recovery afterward was quicker and smoother than ever before.
Now, about a month after “graduating” from Lark, I’ve just finished my first self-designed 4-week training block. It’s a proud moment for me because I’m not only feeling great doing the activities I love but also successfully putting into practice what I learned at Lark. I’m doing exactly what I set out to do, and I couldn’t have gotten here without my time at Lark.

I came to Lark in rather desperate straits, following a difficult respiratory illness that left me feeling like I’d aged decades in the course of months and that damaged my mental health along the way. I had lost the ability to engage in the outdoor pursuits that sustain me and was afraid that I was on a course of lifelong decline.
I came with a clear idea of the life I want to have for many more decades, full of long, sustaining bicycle rides and dog walks on the gorgeous New River Trail. That’s the vision of a healthy, happy retirement that I’ve had for quite a while, but with the remote work revolution and the advent of rural broadband, I got the chance at accessing it sooner.
The science and research-based approach of Lark and the awesomely over-educated background of Lark’s founder Beth helped me to overcome some of my barriers there. I’ve learned of this whole field of much-needed expertise on the human body that’s different from what doctors or physical therapists have to offer: How best to move and to keep moving! At Lark that expertise comes as part of a package of skills in communicating, understanding, motivating, and inspiring.
I’m now living the beautifully adventurous life I wanted, continuously finding that ever-moving sweet spot of challenge through fine-tuned efforts. I'm fast (but not too fast!) becoming the long-distance touring cyclist of my dream-life. I’ve become quite the amateur outfitter and adventure instigator for friends and family, leading cycling, bikepacking, and tubing expeditions. I love teaching what I’ve learned, helping others to stretch themselves physically to access the beauty of the wild world.
Invest in yourself! It is invaluable. If you feel out of options, take the chance.- Sara Farnsworth
